    December 19, 2017
Animas High School, 20091 US-160, Durango, CO 81301, USA (map)

A Presentation of Learning is a formal presentation given by students to a panel comprised of peers, community members, administrators, teachers and parents at the end of each semester. Before POLs, students practice their presentations and focus on specific public speaking skills, receive feedback from teachers and peers, refine and rehearse their POL delivery. At the end of second semester, presentations are used to determine whether students are ready to advance to the next grade. Transitional Presentations of Learning (tPOLs) are formal presentations where students must demonstrate mastery of grade level standards and their readiness to be promoted. Requirements for tPOLs are grade-level specific, but include an oral presentation, use of the student’s digital portfolio, and include artifacts from standards-bearing project work in the Humanities, Math and Science, Spanish, Digital Media, Advisory, SIGs and X-Blocks.

Students who attempt but do not pass POLs/tPOLs are given one additional opportunity to present once they have refined their work based upon the review panel’s feedback. Participation in all POLs/tPOLs is mandatory and students are expected to present in professional dress.

These unique learning measures and alternative assessment opportunities augment state and authorizer accountability requirements. They offer ways to gauge and demonstrate the levels of attainment in vital aspects of AHS’s design principles that are not readily or adequately measured by standardized assessment. Student Led Conferences, Exhibitions and POLs are unique to AHS and students look forward to participating and presenting their work to our community through these venues.
