{"id":14192,"date":"2017-09-07T15:45:09","date_gmt":"2017-09-07T21:45:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/animashighschool.com\/staging\/?p=14192"},"modified":"2017-09-07T15:45:09","modified_gmt":"2017-09-07T21:45:09","slug":"attendance-policies-and-procedures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/animashighschool.com\/staging\/2017\/09\/07\/attendance-policies-and-procedures\/","title":{"rendered":"Attendance Policies and Procedures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dear Ospreys,<br \/>\nAnimas High School is, in many ways, a nontraditional learning environment and as such, regular attendance is a particularly important factor in supporting student success. Project-based learning means that students are engaged in activities during class time that are often difficult to make up if they are absent.\u00a0 As such, we want to share our updated attendance policy with you and remind you of the procedures we have in place that support students and families when students miss class.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>In the event of an unplanned absence (i.e., illness or emergency)<\/strong>, a parent\/guardian must call Bridget Stowers in the main office or email <a href=\"mailto:mainoffice@animashighschool.com\">mainoffice@animashighschool.com<\/a>. If the school does not receive a call from a parent\/guardian, the absence will be marked in Infinite Campus as unexcused.<\/li>\n<li><strong>For any absence that is known ahead of time<\/strong>, students must complete a <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1iwnhb5qhSYNSRosktYyPWmmPdVkkIaJsSB2Nr5w2jPk\/edit?usp=sharing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pre-Excused Absence Form<\/a>, have it signed by all teachers and a parent\/guardian and then turn it in to Bridget in the main office.<\/li>\n<li><strong>When students need to leave school during the school day<\/strong>, we need a note, email or a phone call from a parent\/guardian when a student is driving him\/herself.\u00a0 For students who are not driving, parents must please come into the main office to sign the student out.<\/li>\n<li><strong>If a student will be late for school<\/strong>, we need a call, email or note from a parent\/guardian for the tardy to be excused.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Students must check in at the main office <\/strong>before going to class when they arrive late to school or they return from a midday appointment.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Unexcused tardies<\/strong> will be recorded and three tardies in any one class becomes an unexcused absence.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Unexcused absences<\/strong> negatively impact students\u2019 grades, as they receive a \u201c0\u201d on any work done in class on the day they miss.<\/li>\n<li><strong>XBlock attendance<\/strong> is mandatory to receive credit for the class.\u00a0 If a student attends less than 70% of XBlock classes in a quarter, <em>whether absences are excused or unexcused<\/em>, s\/he will need to repeat the course in the senior year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Our newly refined attendance policy<\/strong>, which you can read in full on page 23-25 of the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1OM76srI45E0632bNL8h2mjHYI19OMUn1mSwrCXwfPDg\/edit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Student and Family Handbook<\/a>, increases the communication and consequences for excessive absences.\u00a0 Please look it over.\u00a0 We encourage parents to check in on student attendance and grades via Infinite Campus regularly so that we are all working together to support students being in class, where the learning is happening.<br \/>\nIn any situation where a student misses class, it is his\/her responsibility to check in with teachers to find out what s\/he missed.\u00a0 All faculty emails and digital portfolios (DPs) can be accessed on <a href=\"https:\/\/animashighschool.com\/staging\/faculty-profiles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this page<\/a> of the AHS website.\u00a0 Teachers have regular office hours posted on their DPs and are here to help.\u00a0 Good communication is key, and we emphasize the importance of advocacy with our students to ensure that they are getting the support they need.<br \/>\nThe bottom line is that at Animas we want students to engage fully in their learning so they can get the most out of their high school education.\u00a0 We appreciate the support from home that sets them up for success on this front.\u00a0 As always, please reach out if you have any questions or concerns and I\u2019ll be happy to address them.<br \/>\nAll best,<br \/>\nLibby<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dear Ospreys, Animas High School is, in many ways, a [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3,4],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-14192","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-news","category-updates"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/animashighschool.com\/staging\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/14192","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/animashighschool.com\/staging\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/animashighschool.com\/staging\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/animashighschool.com\/staging\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/animashighschool.com\/staging\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=14192"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/animashighschool.com\/staging\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/14192\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/animashighschool.com\/staging\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=14192"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/animashighschool.com\/staging\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=14192"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/animashighschool.com\/staging\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=14192"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
