Durango, Colorado, located in the San Juan Mountains, is a prime locale for some of the best skiing, paddling, climbing and biking in country. Routinely voted as on of the best places to live, work and play, Durango is the proud home of Animas High School. Opened in the fall of 2009, AHS looks forward to another amazing academic year educating approximately 250 students in grades 9-12.<\/p>\n
Based on the wildly successful High Tech High model out of San Diego, CA., Animas High School employs a project based learning approach throughout our curriculum. Students pursue unique opportunities for learning through the completion of projects, applying their knowledge and skills while addressing real world problems and scenarios. The school holds a deep commitment to the development of the whole student and a Culture of Excellence. Our goals include: to achieve 100 percent college admission for our students; and to produce graduates who have experienced personal connections to their studies while developing as intelligent, creative and compassionate life-long learners.<\/p>\n
In 2011, Animas High School was named a John Irwin School of Excellence by the Colorado Department of Education, honoring AHS as one of the top 8% of all public schools in the state.
