Congratulations to seniors Ellie Ellis, Jess Kroes & Ally Kuhns, otherwise known as Team Excelsior, who have been named National High School Winners of the 2013-2014 Siemens We Can Change the World Challenge! Their research on mine waste remediation using biochar was conducted in Alex Hostiuck’s Earth Systems Science class. The team won the 3rd place prize, which includes a $10,000 scholarship for the students and $1,000 for the school, plus a prize pack with green merchandise and a tablet. View their proposal here.
