Animas High School Board of Directors Seeking New Members as Successful Charter School Embarks upon Tenth Year of Operation
Animas High School is seeking enthusiastic, responsible, collaborative community members who support the mission and vision of the school to join its Board of Directors. Now entering their tenth year of providing innovative, project-based education that prepares all students for college, career and postsecondary success, AHS is preparing to kick off a capital campaign and build a permanent, 21st century facility in Durango. The school is well positioned for this transition and is looking for additional Board Members to help achieve its goal.
Animas High School is a public, tuition-free charter school founded by local community members, accredited by the Colorado Charter School Institute (CSI) and inspired by High Tech High in San Diego, California. CSI rated AHS as a Performance with Distinction school, their highest rating. With approximately 250 students and close student-teacher relationships, AHS is a small school where students are well known, supported and challenged. Animas High School prepares all students for college and post-secondary success by creating critical thinkers and engaged citizens through an innovative, student-centered, project-based curriculum. They accomplish this through:
- Rigorous academics, where all students are prepared for college success
- Culture of excellence, where students are held to high expectations
- Strong faculty-student relationships, where students are well known
- Engaging learning, where students see the relevance of their education
The AHS Board of Directors’ responsibilities include: ensuring that the school is fulfilling its mission and vision, supporting and evaluating the Head of School, monitoring and strengthening the school’s programs and services, providing financial oversight, ensuring legal and ethical integrity of the organization and enhancing the school’s public standing. AHS Board Members must be able to commit to monthly meetings, chairing a Board Committee (School Excellence Committee, Governance Committee, Facilities Committee, Marketing and Communication Committee, Fundraising Committee, Finance Committee, etc.) and other tasks as needed. For more information please contact AHS Board President Jeff King at [email protected], attend the next AHS Board Meeting on Wednesday, July 25, 5:30-7:30pm at AHS, 271 Twin Buttes Avenue in Durango or visit www.animashighschool.com.
