The Colorado League of Charter Schools recently featured Animas High School in a story about how our students grow over four years at AHS, and where that growth takes them after graduation.
“Big futures don’t always come from big schools.”

The article follows the AHS experience one grade level at a time:
- 9th and 10th grade: Students begin exploring colleges and careers early and build real skills through project based learning and Osprey Blocks.
- 11th grade: Juniors take the lead in securing their own LINK Internships with community partners, with guidance from our internship and work-based learning coordinator.
- 12th grade: Seniors complete Senior Project, which includes a college-style research paper, a public TED-style thesis defense, and an action project that puts their learning to work in the community.
The story also highlights where Ospreys have gone next, including a student whose LINK internship with the Upper Pine River Fire Protection District led to a job offer and wildland firefighter training, a competitive cyclist who beta-tested components for SRAM during his internship, and a graduate whose Senior Project on street art as a political act carried into her studies at Pitzer College.
Thank you to the Colorado League of Charter Schools for sharing our students’ stories.
