We are looking forward to welcoming you back to Animas High School next Wednesday for your senior year! Hopefully you have had a chance to read the Welcome Letter we sent to families last week, chock full of information about the start of the school year; if not, you can view that letter here.
Seniors will meet bright and early at 6:45am at the base of the ABC trailhead (also known as the Centennial Trail), located at the corner of E. 10th Street and 6th Avenue. They will head up the trail to the chapel at the south edge of Fort Lewis College’s campus for Senior Sunrise, a very special tradition for our school, before joining the rest of the AHS student body back on campus for the day. Seniors who are enrolled in the Gateway Program are absolutely welcome to join us for this special kick off to the year! We are asking all seniors to refrain from using their off-campus privileges on Wednesday so that they can reconnect with the school community and help us welcome new students. We will be offering catered lunch on Wednesday. Please make sure that your student has any emergency medication that could possibly be needed (e.g. EPI Pens, inhalers, Glucagon) with him/her prior to leaving home in the morning.
After Senior Sunrise, seniors will go out to breakfast with their Advisory at the following locations:

  • Steve’s Advisory–College Drive Cafe
  • Dan’s Advisory–Oscar’s
  • Susy and Jessica’s Advisories–Carver’s
  • Tina’s Advisory–CJ’s
  • Janae’s Advisory–Doughworks

Please bring money for breakfast, work gloves and your laptop computer with you on Wednesday, and please wear clothes that can get dirty.
Thursday is the first day of academic classes and all students will have their school photos taken on Thursday for Student ID Cards, which will be issued within the first two weeks of school. We have installed a new security system on our campus, and students and staff will need to use ID Cards to enter our buildings.
We are really excited for this group of stellar students to step into leadership as the senior class. Enjoy the final stretch of your summer and, as always, please feel free to reach out with any questions!

All best,
Libby
